Pick a famous person, you know, totally relatable. Whose skin tone is closest to yours?
Our lasers can safely treat skin types I-IV (1-4).
Laser Hair Removal is all about contrast. The lighter the skin and the darker the hair, the better the result. The contrast between the skin and hair, allows the pigment present in the hair follicle to be easily targeted. This is why laser hair removal only works on medium brown/black hair.
If your skin is in the V-VI (5-6) range, you will be better protected by a YAG laser.
Laser Lounge STL does NOT utilize the YAG laser. YAG technology has a weaker melanin absorption rate and longer wavelengths which make it safe to use on all dark skin tones. This lessens the risk of burns and hyper/hypopigmentation.
We do not want to put you at unnecessary risk. For skin tones V and VI, we recommend seeking out a YAG LASER provider in your area.
The laser can only see hairs with brown to black pigment.
Unfortunately, there is no laser on the market that can see white, blonde, grey, or red hairs. Whoever figures that one out will be rich, very rich.
Until that day comes, the only permanent reduction option for light hair is Electrolysis. Call our friends at Electrolysis Etc.: 314-727-8313 for more information.
TREATING YOUR FACE?
Do not wax, tweeze, epilate, or thread those hairs for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment. We also recommend not bleaching hairs in the areas to be treated.
TREATING OTHER AREAS OF THE BODY?
Do not wax, tweeze, or thread the hairs for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment.
WHY?
Waxing, tweezing and threading remove the root of the hair follicle. Without the root of the hair to target, the laser hair removal process won't work.
Take a deep breath... you can SHAVE and TRIM the hairs as often as you wish.
Take another deep breath...NO, shaving the hairs does NOT produce more hairs. Sorry, your grandma is wrong. This myth was debunked in 1928.
Once the hairs start to emerge back through the surface of your skin, they may look and feel thicker due to the blunt end from where the razor cut the hair.
You must shave the areas you are having lasered the night before or the morning of treatment.
LOSE YOUR TAN
Your skin needs to be at its natural tone before your treatment. Avoid prolonged sun exposure/tanning beds for 3-4 weeks before your laser hair removal treatment.
WHY?
Tanned skin is vulnerable skin and makes you prone to adverse reactions such as burns, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), and hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin). Avoid the sun for 2 weeks after laser hair removal treatment.
How to protect the treated areas:
If the summer sun's calling your name, GO ENJOY. You can resume treatments in the fall. Waiting a few months will not negate the hair reduction you already have achieved.
You will need to stop taking any photosensitive meds for one week prior to Laser Hair Removal. Accutane/Isotretinoin must be stopped SIX MONTHS prior to laser hair removal treatments.
Certain medications cause photosensitivity, making you ultra-sensitive to light.
Some of these include Antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin, Minocycline, Doxycycline, Levofloxacin, Ofloxacin, Tetracycline, Trimethoprim) Accutane, and more.
Stop usage of topical medications 3-5 days prior to treatment. Some of these include Retinoids, and Alpha-hydroxy acids.
Speak with your prescriber/pharmacist to confirm any risk.
